Please note. Upon further tests I have found that a bio sand filter is ONLY good for filtering out particles. The water was slightly cleaner after the filter but not good enough to drink. I will probably buy a "berky" water filter which will clean the water much more after the sand filter to the point that I should be able to drink it. The construction of my barrel goes like this. There is some PVC pipes in the bottom which have holes drilled in the bottom of them which allow the water to go inside them. The first 6 inches of the barrel is filled with pea pebbles. Then I cleaned about 200 lbs of sand and put it in the barrel. There is about 1 inch of water between the stable level of water and where the sand starts. All of the outside pipes are visible in the video. Ok one last word. I was able to construct this for only like which I spent on epoxy. All of the pipes and barrels and even the pump were found in the alley. Since this was a free project it was fun, however, I do not recommend using this system because the standing grey water gets stinky really fast and it hardly cleans anything. Since I use eco-friendly detergent I skip the whole sand filter thing now and just pump the water into all the plants in the front yard which are only for decoration and not for eating. Feel free to ask my any questions regarding this system.
